I drive Tacomas (new every two years) for work (patrol work), they’re okay, but own a 2006 Colorado with the off-road suspension, currently at 196,000 plus miles and it’s been more reliable than any of the Toyotas… I could be just lucky, but there you go. I will say, that I will never own anything other than a truck, ever.
Consider the FabFour (South Carolina) rear bumper w hitch and rear lights/sensors. Then get a Buckstop (from Prineville, Oregon) same as the police SUV I-beam bumpers w hidden winch inside and front hitch. Skyjacker or ProComp have great skid plates. My Yukon XL has this and everybody seeing it for the first time drool, … and people/police look (take a second look) and ask if this is a SWAT or DHS vehicle. CarID has the TrailFX tail lights guards.

Ive got an old Toyota HZJ79 for my bug out vehicle. No computer, no fuss, keeps going and is diesel.
I’m actually using it as my daily right now as I had a car accident and destroyed my other, newer vehicle. I must say it’s definitely a truck.
However, if they ever sell the Tacoma in Australia, I’d buy one for a daily driver. I like them much more than the Hilux we get here.
The modern 79 series V8 is almost identical to drive as my old rig but with way more power. Very truck like and uncomfortable ? or I’d consider buying one of those.
Toyota has a great track record with quality in their trucks with the exception of the frames. Extremely prone to rust/rot. Keep an eye on your frame.
I’ve always taken the “dental dam” (think it’s a splash guard maybe) usually it’s just held on by a few bolts
Good insights indeed.
