Damn that a great idea. I don’t think most people would think of that. Talk about some great advice
It is not about the most difficult, it is about the least traveled. If the main road gets you a certain distance then by all means. My plan to exit the urban outskirts where I work is to use the train tracks. “Aquire” a bicycle if possible and go. Train tracks are flat, generally straight and often not considered. The secondary path is the power lines. They will be much more difficult as they span swamps and significant terrain. Both routes are 25 miles. With a bicycle that is under 3 hrs, on foot it is between 6-8 hrs with my bag.
Once the meltdown is recognized and the general population starts to turn crazy it is of existential importance to avoid interactions with anyone else. The path that is least traveled, whatever that maybe is the route to take. I review issues from Katrina as the standard. The type of crisis is not important, but understanding what the general group think is and doing something else is the point.

If I lived in a city, I’d have my BUG somewhere on the edge of town, in a storage facility. I would use a bicycle or dirt bike to get to that from wherever I lived deeper in the city.
Dont forget sewers,underground utilities,and boats. Even an aircraft or ultralight may be a possibility for a few.
