Thanks for hangin’ out!
What fiber optic sights did you use? Also when are you coming out with the Ultimate Survival Challenge 2017 video?
Ever ar-7
Smith and Wesson 1522 the finest rifle Rock solid fantastic Shooter and the Sig 1522 a fantastic shooter.
I have all three of these 22’s love them all ! What did you use for sights on the 10/22 take down? I have a cheap scope on my mine that never seems to stay true
Great survival rifle should meet ALL of the following:
1. Compact
2. Easy to carry/ ergonomic
3. Low weight
4. Reliable
5. Field strip w/o any tools, easy, fast, clearing action+bolt removal without a single screw to be removed with any tool (10/22 already fails this one)
6. Cheap/ Afordable
7. No plastic to trigger group (10/22 already fails this one), action, bolt
8. Reasonably accurate: sub-MOA at 100m is STUPID as hitting a rabbit into the eye or lower jaw is still providing you food
9. BACK-up sights is a must, moreover, open sights should be your primary way of training and shooting for SHTF; optics only or special tools needed to remove failing optic = failure in your set-up; sights must be instantly available within seconds if optics fails. Many people when they make “survival rifle” never saw a major problem in their lives… so they rely on optics only or screw it to picatinny so it is not removable w/o a tool.. isn’t STUPID? It is not only STUPID it may cost you life
10. Simple mechanics with minimal moving parts is a MUST = more parts in the system= more chance for failures
Conclusion: Ruger suckz as survival rifle
maybe takedown is better-never had experience with it yet. otherwise agree-it is a compromise.
While I do agree with many of your points, nothing in this world is 100% perfect or ideal. When I feed my breakdown 10/22 the ammo I have validated it works with ( I steer clear of Winchester white box!), it is more than dependable enough for me and what I perceive a SHTF situation will be. I agree I would rather it disassemble without tools, I would rather there be less plastic parts (although you can buy metal upgrades), and I would rather it be a simpler mechanism. Heck, I would really prefer a different caliber. For all of that to occur, I would pay more, weigh more, and lose my ability to have quick follow up shots. I do not believe the perfect gun exists. If It did, I would own 5 of them and nothing else. As far as compromises go, I find the 10/22 breakdown in stainless steel to exceed my basic requirements for a SHTF gun. If I find a better solution for my needs, I am not against upgrading. As always, your experience and needs may differ from mine, but I would like to hear what your ideal survival rifle is.
10-22 mine fits in a tennis racket bag ( not the takedown ) and with its oversized, and over designed screw on “flash hider” it sounds like a loose faggot fart in a Hurricane.
AGP arms makes a folding stock for the 10/22 takedown and to save weight you could always take the forend off the 10/22…….if $ is no object to save even more weight tactical solutions makes a lightweight takedown barrel
